Golf enthusiasts will not be disappointed with either the number or quality of the courses to play within an easy drive of Langlade. In all, there are some dozen golf clubs (some with two courses) within a sixty mile radius, or an hour and half’s drive of Langlade.
Set out below are brief details of the golf courses within a reasonable driving distance of the property.
Golf d’Aubeterre – 9 holes (15kms or 10 minutes drive)
Situated a few kms outside the village of Aubeterre, a village listed as one of the most beautiful in France. Although the course is short (1728m), it requires a good deal of technical skill. It includes numerous bunkers and other hazards and is suitable for players of all levels.
Golf Club de l’Hirondelle, Angouleme – 18 holes (40kms or 25 minutes drive)
This 18 hole, 5365m par 70 course is located 4kms south of Angouleme, with panoramic views over the city. The course has recently been totally redesigned and covers an area of some 35 hectares in St. Martin’s woods. This is a gently sloping, wooded course with fairways that demand technique.
Golf du Cognac - 18 holes (65kms or 1 hours drive)
Located on the banks of the river Charente between Cognac and Jarnac, this course is the work of designer Jean Garaialde. Experienced golfers will enjoy playing holes 12, 15 and 17 which are particularly difficult.
Golf International de la Preze, Montbron – 18 holes (57kms or 1 hours drive)
Its beautiful location, linked with its total integration in the heart of 65 hectares of hills, woods and lakes make Golf de la Preze a special course. The course has just been extended from 9 to 18 holes in 2005. Affiliated to the French Golfing Federation.
Golf de Bordeaux Lac – 2 x 18 holes (95kms or 1 hours drive)
La Jalle is a flat old styled course packed with trees, deep rough and bunkers awaiting any stray balls. It is home to the Bordeaux International Open. Its sister course, Les Etangs, is a 6810m par par 72 in the American syle, with rolling countryside, water hazards and trees. This course is host to the French Junior Championship. Buggies are available on both courses.
Golf du Medoc -2 x 18 holes (108kms 0r 1 hour 15m drive)
The Châteaux course, 6,316 meters long, with a par of 71, designed by Bill Corre (USA), corresponds to the pure tradition of Scottish links.Wide fairways bordered by heather, gorse and broom entice golfers into the delights of a carefully preserved nature.The fast greens, the influence of Atlantic winds and the technical difficulties of the layout make this championship course a constant challenge.
The Vignes course, 6,220 meters long, with a par of 71, designed by Rod Whitman (Canada), is set in a typically regional landscape where the beauty of the moors and the maritime pines serve to enhance the architect’s design.
The long par-5 holes with their carefully designed greens, the judiciously placed bunkers call for careful and precise strokes.The wide variety of holes and the sumptuous setting will more than meet the expectations of the most demanding players
Golf De Pessac - one 18 and 2 x 9 hole courses (110 kms or 1h 15m drive)
Surrounded by beautiful pine forest, Pessac is a fairly flat but intelligently designed layout making good use of water hazards. Don’t waste shots around the fairways, because the greens are renowned throughout the region for their speed and cruel contours!
Golf de Margaux - 18 hole (130kms or 1.5 hours drive)
The course is set in the heart of the Margaux vineyards close to the most prestigious Chateaux of the Medoc. The fairways are lined with elm and ash trees with some fairways following the banks of the Gironde estuary while others are surrounded by lakes and water hazards. A new course opened only on 1 January 2006.
Golf de Bordeaux Cameyrac -18 hole (80 kms or 1 hours drive)
The only 18-hole course on the right bank of Bordeaux, between the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers. Laid out in the middle of a forest of century old trees, and surrounded by vines. There is also a 9 hole pitch and putt course. Buggies available. Located 15 minutes from Bordeaux centre and 20 minutes from St Emilion and Pomerol.
